BFC Union were the first BFC team to get their 2017-18 football season under way, with
their opening two matches in the Russian Youth League!
The team started brightly a strong ДЮСШ Дмитров opponent. The boys held their own against a very
quick and physical team, matching them for strength in 1v1 battles and defending very well as a team.
On the ball they were passing very well, and it was this clinical passing that proved the different as
playmaker Dlamini twice sent team mates Grachev and Kolodziejski through on goal to
score for Union. Dlamini himself extended Union’s lead with a thunderous drive to the far post, before
Union’s opponents got back into the game to make the score 3-2. Under pressure as the minutes ticked
away, Union held on for a much deserved 3-2 victory!!
In the second match, immediately following the first, a tired start by Union saw them go 2-0 down to old
rivals Armada. However, the boys kept their heads up, kept their composure and kept playing good
football. The introduction of Metelskiy to the line-up provided the spark that was necessary, with
his pace and trickery with the ball causing lots of problems for Armada. After several near misses,
Metelskiy bagged the goal that got Union back into the game, and from then on it was one-way traffic.
Union continued to surge forward with a second wind of energy, peppering the opponent goal with shot
after shot as Dlamini, Kolodziejski and Metelskiy (2) added to the score. The final score was 7-2 to Union,
and a great first round of matches for the team!
Special thanks must go to the coaches and players of both ДЮСШ Дмитров and Armada, who offered
one of their players to play for Union for each match as we were one player short.
